The National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI) has named veteran aviation leader Brian Wynne as its new Executive Director. In addition to this role, Wynne will also serve as President of the Board of Directors, marking a significant leadership transition for one of the aviation industry’s most respected professional associations.

Wynne brings decades of experience in both aviation and organizational leadership to NAFI. He has served prominently on multiple Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) advisory committees, including various Aviation Rulemaking Committees and the FAA Administrator’s Management Advisory Council. His extensive background reflects a long-standing commitment to advancing aviation safety, training, and policy.

Before taking on this position with NAFI, Wynne completed a nine-year tenure as President and CEO of the Association for Uncrewed Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI), the world’s largest nonprofit organization dedicated to unmanned systems and robotics. During that time, he worked closely with aviation associations and governmental bodies, and testified before Congress on aviation and unmanned systems issues more than ten times.

Wynne’s personal experience as a pilot further grounds his leadership in the realities faced by flight instructors and general aviation professionals. An instrument-rated commercial pilot, he also holds an instrument ground instructor (IGI) rating and plans to complete his instrument flight instructor (CFII) check ride soon. He owns and flies a Socata TB-20 Trinidad and regularly participates in missions with Mercy Medical Angels, reflecting his enduring passion for flight and community service.

NAFI plays a crucial role in the aviation ecosystem by providing resources, guidance, and professional development for Certified Flight Instructors (CFIs) across the United States. Wynne’s leadership is expected to reinforce NAFI’s mission to elevate flight instruction standards and support the professional growth of instructors who train the next generation of pilots.

As Wynne steps into his dual role as Executive Director and Board President, the aviation community anticipates a period of strategic focus on instructor support, advocacy, and collaboration with industry stakeholders. His varied experience across traditional and emerging aviation sectors positions him well to lead NAFI into its next chapter.
