Skyfarer and Skywatch Bring Instant Aviation Insurance Quotes Into the Flight Training Marketplace

Pilots, flight instructors, and aircraft buyers on Skyfarer can now request aviation insurance quotes without leaving the page they’re on. Skyfarer announced on October 14, 2026 an expanded partnership with Skywatch, a digital aviation insurance provider, that puts Skywatch’s quoting tool directly on Skyfarer listing pages. Renters and CFIs can request a quote inline today, and aircraft buyers will be able to request owned-aircraft coverage the same way. Quotes for eligible pilots and aircraft come back in minutes.

The integration is live now across Skyfarer listing pages, with more placements planned through the end of 2026.

Why Insurance Belongs in the Marketplace

Insurance tends to come up at the moment someone is ready to move forward, and it usually slows them down. Three common examples:

  • A renter pilot joining a flying club is often required to carry their own non-owned aircraft coverage before flying club airplanes.
  • A newly certificated flight instructor needs liability coverage before taking on a first student.
  • A first-time aircraft buyer needs an insurance binder before closing on the airplane.

Until now, each of those moments has meant leaving the platform, calling a broker, and waiting.

“General aviation runs on a dozen disconnected steps, and insurance is one of the ones people often hit at the wrong moment,” said Nick Tsang, founder of Skyfarer. “If someone has just chosen a flight instructor or found the airplane they want to buy, that is the moment coverage should be one click away, not a phone call next week.”

“Insurance shouldn’t be a separate process that slows pilots down,” said Amir Shneider, chief marketing officer at Skywatch. “Our goal is to make aviation insurance available wherever pilots already are, whether they’re booking a lesson, working with an instructor, or purchasing an aircraft. Our digital platform makes it easy for partners like Skyfarer to embed insurance directly into their customers’ journey.”

A Quick Guide to the Three Coverage Types

If you’re new to aviation insurance, here’s what each one is for.

Renter’s insurance (non-owned aircraft coverage). When you rent an airplane from a flight school, club, or FBO, the owner’s policy protects the owner. It may not fully protect you. If you damage the airplane or injure someone, you could be personally responsible for costs the owner’s policy doesn’t cover, and in some cases the owner’s insurer may seek to recover what it paid from you. Renter’s insurance covers your liability and, depending on the policy, damage to the aircraft you’re flying. Many clubs and some schools require it.

CFI insurance. Flight instructors carry their own exposure when they teach, especially freelance instructors working in students’ or owners’ airplanes. Instructor coverage typically protects the CFI’s liability while giving instruction, and can include coverage for damage to aircraft they’re flying.

Owned aircraft coverage. Owners usually need liability coverage and hull coverage, which pays for damage to the airplane itself. If you’re financing a purchase, the lender will almost always require hull coverage, and you’ll need a binder, which is proof of coverage, before closing.

Coverage terms, limits, and eligibility vary by policy, so read the quote carefully and ask Skywatch about anything that’s unclear.

Frequently Asked Questions

What did Skyfarer and Skywatch announce? On October 14, 2026, Skyfarer announced an expanded partnership with Skywatch that embeds Skywatch’s aviation insurance quoting directly into Skyfarer listing pages. Renter pilots and flight instructors can request quotes inline now, and aircraft buyers will be able to request owned-aircraft coverage the same way. Quotes for eligible pilots and aircraft are issued in minutes.

Do I need renter’s insurance to rent an airplane? It depends on the operator. Many flying clubs and some flight schools require renters to carry their own non-owned aircraft coverage. Even when it isn’t required, the owner’s policy is written to protect the owner, so renter’s insurance can protect you from costs that policy doesn’t cover.

Do flight instructors need their own insurance? Many do, especially freelance instructors who teach in students’ or owners’ aircraft. CFI insurance typically covers the instructor’s liability while giving instruction and may include damage to aircraft they fly. A new instructor generally wants coverage in place before taking a first student.

What is an insurance binder when buying an airplane? A binder is proof that coverage is in place. If you’re financing an aircraft purchase, the lender will usually require one, typically including hull coverage, before closing.

Is Skyfarer an insurance company? No. Skyfarer is not an insurance agency. Insurance is sold and serviced by Skywatch Insurance Services, Inc., a licensed insurance agency, and Skyfarer may receive compensation from Skywatch.
